The Duckling Gets a Cookie

Last week the girls made pigeons and buses to go along with the book "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." Then at story time, Bria found yet another Mo Willems book, "The Duckling Gets a Cookie." We checked it out, and as soon as we got home she decided she wanted to make a duckling too.  We didn't get to make one right then, but we did make one.We made it the same way we made our pigeon. Started with a hand print, yellow this time, using the thumb as the neck and added a head and eye made from paper.

Then the girls drew on feet and a beak.  Bria wanted her beak to look like the book, so when her first one didn't she decided it was a horn and drew a new one.

They wanted to make cookies for the duckling too, so I made up little sheets with 5 brown circles on them. I wrote a number word above each circle along with a blank to rewrite the word and a blank for them to write the number. Then they glued on the correct number of "chips."

We thought we needed some real cookies too, so we tried making the New York Times Best Chocolate Chip Cookies!
