I sat down yesterday to write this blog post without an idea in my head. I looked at the blank screen for a while, but it didn't help (funny, that). Then I had a trawl back through some old posts to see if anything would inspire me. (Is it really, really sad to read your own writing in hope of inspiration?)
While I was doing that, I noticed that the last time I had a blogbreak was in summer 2006. And then I did have an idea.
Yes, dear readers, I'm going to take a break. I'm really low on ideas for this blog, and I need to concentrate on other kinds of writing for a while. Charles is producing good, entertaining posts about funerals. Any of the Novel Racers will offer you posts about writing. And for quality rants, from the idiotic through the eccentric to the laudable, I commend you to the online Guardian's Comment Is Free section.
I do intend to continue reading and (mostly) commenting on the blogs in my sidebar. I don't know when I'll start writing blog posts again. Maybe next week, next month or next year. Maybe never. Maybe tomorrow. Who knows? Perhaps I'll reinvent myself and appear in a different corner of the web under a whole new identity. If you want me for anything in the meantime, feel free to email. And look on the bright side - that's one less blog you need to check on for a while!

I strongly believe one should follow one's instinct with regard to posts and when it becomes a burden is the time for a break - not that I believe you find yours a burden but you know what I mean. How bloggers with jobs cope is beyond my ken - unless they are driven - which is the best feeling.
It's nice to know you are at the end of an e-mail and any time you feel like returning is fine by me.
You will always be welcome in the SW:)
You know I've always said "Don't be a slave to your blog". it's always refreshing to take a step away and consider the whole exercise from a different outside perspective. go for it.
I appreciate life gets full, yet there are times when trying to find the motivation to write something gets all a bit 'meh' - and that's OK!
Whatever you decide you want to do, and for however long, just be aware that you have been a positive influence in my life, thru many a up-and-down time. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us this way. No seriously, I mean it. That's not 'emotional blackmail' saying that, I'm just trying to encourage you that your words, thoughts and life have been a very helpful positive influence on mine. Bless you, Ma'am.

I don't think regular blogging is all it's cracked up to be. That's probably because I'm an irregular blogger, due to very often having not much to blog about (apart from my Asteroid story - which I need to get on with).

I was just saying to a friend yesterday that my blog had gone through so many incarnations and changes over the years, it's barely recognisable. If a blog is a reflection of what's happening in our lives over a period of time, how could it be otherwise?
Well done for recognising the need to make a change. Hang on in there until you know where it's going to take you, but be assured I'll be hanging onto your coat tails.
